How to Troubleshoot Netgear Extenders

Netgear Extenders improve the coverage of your wireless network by increasing the range of the network from your router. Extenders take in the signal from your router and then rebroadcast the signal to reach areas outside of your router’s standard range. As with any piece of networking equipment, outside issues as well as internal errors can cause the extender to stop working properly. You can utilize the troubleshooting features included in the device to get it back to a functional operating condition.

Move the position of the Extender. According to Netgear, the ideal location is halfway between your router and the computer. Position the extender so that the Link Rate LED light and the PC Connector LED light on the front panel of the extender both glow green. This will provide for the best connection speed and resolve operating issues with the Extender.

  • Unplug any wired connections to the router if your Extender is configured properly but suddenly stops working. Locate the “Reset” button on the rear panel.
  • Press the “Restore Factory Settings” button for 7 seconds.
  • Release the button to return your Netgear Extender to factory-operating condition. This will resolve operating errors within your device that can cause it to stop working properly.
